I thought it was Chase's phone that started the fire when it was ringing. Whose phone was he using at Jennifer's?

Nice to see Hope remembers she has a cousin, Jennifer. I thought for sure she was going to call Rafe, to stay at his place.
It's probably just a plot point to push Abby to move into the D-Mansion because it's too crowded at the Horton house. :'(

Thank you JCP.

Someone should tell Ava that there are a lot of towns named Salem in the U.S.A.

Today's episode was really enjoyable.

Hope and Rafe are so much better when they take the romantic stuff out. I actually enjoyed their scenes today. I'm glad that it at least feels like this story is headed somewhere instead of being stuck in limbo for weeks at a time. The house fire seems to have shaken things up a little. And I know I've been saying this a lot, but I continue to like Chase. He and Claire are my two favorites of the new teen scene.

Jennifer was a nice surprise today. I love that she is the one who Hope turned to, and that Hope immediately noticed something wrong with her. Very good beats played!

John and Marlena's conversation was so good. This is why I don't need them on every single day. Because the people who are on every day don't get dialogue like that, at least not for the past couple months. This regime has been pretty consistent with the dialogue for John/Marlena though, thankfully.

Steve/Kayla/Ava was ehh. Definitely the weak part of the show. There were parts of their conversation I liked, but I'm just not ready for Ava's 5th scheme in two months. She's basically throwing everything at them but the kitchen sink. Not interested anymore!

She has already decided to move into the mansion anyways. Plus she's staying at the B&B with Chad and Thomas.

As much as I want Kayla to get to say her piece on this, I hate Steve lying. It seems like a bad ploy to create drama and it goes back to Kayla's trust issues. They were doing so well telling the truth
Yeah, I thought it would actually be a nice twist to have him tell her the truth to show that he has learned that he should be up front with her. This feels like a step back for him. Him having to do this period, felt like a step back.

I would prefer he play it this way ONLY IF he's damaged by what happened and wants but can't tell her emotionally, and it's more that Kayla will need to help him deal with it. I could find that acceptable. It should be a hard thing for Steve to accept, imo.

If he's hiding it because he wants to 'spare her', I don't like it at all. By now he should know she's capable of dealing if he'll just be honest.

So they're living in a bed & breakfast room with a baby? Missed that, thought she was just visiting.

I just figured it would be used as another reason she couldn't change her mind.

They were there yesterday. There is a separate room for the baby. It's not like it's some place that isn't fit for the baby. It's Chad's room but I would say Abby and Thomas are living with Chad since he is her fiancé. Regardless, Hope and the kids are only staying at Jen's for one night as a precaution.

It wasn't a bad episode today ... there were a few 'scratch your head' moments but otherwise it wasn't bad.

Oh Steve, you had the perfect opportunity to tell Kayla everything and you couldn't do it. I don't want to say that you're a coward because I'm sure your justification is that you don't want to hurt Kayla anymore than she's already been hurt by Ava. But come on, you're in Salem where a secret never stays a secret. Eventually the truth is going to come out and although I still consider what Ava did as rape it's going to take Kayla a while to get there ... I'm not even sure Steve would ever let himself go there ... he'd just brush it off as doing what he had to do to save Kayla.

Absolutely loved the John and Marlena scenes today. This is classic J&M and I loved every second they were on.

Glad Hope got the fire out quickly and no one was hurt. I'll give Hope a pass on blaming Jen's lack of sleep as being in shock over Daniel because she's focused on Andre and what she has to do to protect her family. If Hope was more aware she might have asked Jen if she's in pain after the accident.

The Chase / Ciara argument was pretty typical for their age group. A lot of yelling and saying things that neither of them mean. I wonder where Chase is going to go.

I'm glad Rafe talked Hope out of involving Shawn ... as he stated they couldn't make an investigation into Andre official without having a lot of explaining to do ... something they're not in a position to do. I wonder where Andre slithered off to? Will Harold find a new job and just move out of the house never to be heard of again.

Of course Ava is headed back to Salem. She can't wait to tell Kayla that she bedded Steve. At least this time both Steve and Kayla had the sense not to believe a word of the text she sent.

Druggie Jen...

I want Kayla to grab Ava's hand and shake it...oh wrong word...I want Kayla to grab Ava's NECK and shake it.

Thank you JCP.

What bothers me, is that probably the only reason they wouldn't let Steve after working hard to regain Kayla's trust, tell her the truth is because we have probably 2 or 3 more weeks of Ava to endure. They have to have a way to provide her exit with as much damage as possible.

They were easily the best part of today, IMO. Good dialogue, and that last scene! That was worth the 2-3 weeks off, forme. They're in love, they’re both smart, they trust each other, get each other and they aren’t afraid to disagree. Um, what’s not to love?

And Marlena brought the pointy finger to their little "fight"! She was not messing around today! Without it being about some dumb plot device or third party. She was not having it with John going off alone on this mission. And as I expected, "dismay" was not about anything but her fear FOR him.

Marlena was trying so hard to make it right for him, to tell him that he was a good, honorable, brave man, regardless of who gave birth to him or raised him. And then they agreed that they were fated. So all in all, I can ignore the rest, because they were just beautiful. Because the rest of the episode felt pretty blah to me. (And again) John & Marlena almost felt like they were written by someone not-Higley, while the rest of the show still felt at least mildly Higley-esque (though today was overall filler-y).

It is a step back, but I actually kind of like how directly this plays into the trust issues that they were just dealing with, and all of Kayla's leaps of faith in December. She doesn't just blindly believe him today, but actively chooses to trust him again, while he is lying to her. That angle really gives Kayla a worthwhile POV in the drama. If it's just about her supporting his reaction to what happened, it's too Steve-focused for me.

She trusted him almost every step of the way since Ava showed up, and it's just led them deeper into this mess. I like that Steve has understandable reasons for not telling her (whatever he's feeling about it, and wanting to protect her and their relationship), but that he's just playing into Ava's plans and giving her more ways to hurt them is the real issue.

Whether Kayla is capable of dealing... I don't know what Steve thinks is going to happen if/when Kayla finds out, and whether or not she could deal with him sleeping with her kidnapper while she was kidnapped. They've been through a lot, but at this point in their relationship I don't think Steve should think it's a given.

You are probably right and she has done major damage to Steves character in my eyes. I don't see any way to repair his character. They have made him a lying, cheating, sleazy characte. What does he say to fix it?

That Ava raped him, would be a good start.
