I'm wondering if some of the backlash over Will's death played into this. I'm fine with Will staying dead, but I could see that as a factor. I bet CM is on his way back or they are trying to get him back.
If it is a factor, that'd piss me off. I like LGBT representation on soaps, but Will's character was so unrootable by the end.
I agree. I'm probably totally off-base but it was a thought that crossed my mind a few minutes after I heard the news.

Of course they are saying Josh left on his own. That really doesn't mean anything.
I don't think it had anything to do with the storyline. All of major s/l-related decisions go through network and Corday.

It happened at the end of his contract; so either he decided or the show decided not to extend his contract.

Why couldn't they just hire Ron Carlivati or Hogan Sheffer!!!
Didn't Sheffer have a somewhat unsuccessful run about a decade ago?

I like the idea of new blood but not a protege(e) of Reilly.
I remember people loving his run until Corday told him he couldn't use the "core four" (that he loved) more than once a week max. Then we got EJ and Sami/Santo and Colleen eating the show, but the rest of the show actually wasn't bad at all. It was clearly in a struggle, and Sheffer lost (and Dena won, she was hired to take over). It was certainly the last time before this fall that I personally enjoyed most of the show over a long period of time.

Corday ruined that. As usual.

It's so depressing to know what all of us predicted became true. We all predicted a power struggle between Josh and Dena, with Dena taking a leave because of things not going her way and Corday sided with her again. Fuck Corday.

in a year Corday will come out and say he doesn't recognize the show and he will do a reboot. That's all that idiot is capable of doing.

Sounds to me like Griffith realized he's better than this crap, Higley has something on someone, and Quan probably came at a deep, deep discount.

He won't have a year, he'll have to do it around Christmas if he wants a chance for the option year if they keep the production schedule as is.

Never! That's the only thing I'm grateful for when it comes to this announcement. For me, it would've been much worse had they announced that Tomlin was coming back. I never want to see that man's creative poison injected into DAYS ever again. I've said it before. Higley might give characters awful stories but at least we know the characters getting awful stories. Tomlin creates awful characters to tell awful stories for.

I don't hate Dena like most on here so I don't mind that she's still there. I mean, she's been writing the last 6 months, and fans enjoyed some of that. We are not in the writers room, so we don't really know what is Josh Griffiths idea and what was Denas. Or maybe they came up with things together. If you hate the last few months of the show, and the next 5 months suck too, then people will probably be glad that Josh is gone. I like the fact that the new HW is younger, maybe that will give the show a fresh perspective. Paging Jason, do you know when the new HW material starts to air?

I agree. A lot of people have said that Hogan Sheffer's era was the last time, the show truly felt and looked like Days. When Higley took over, it was when we got Daniel, Melanie and Rafe slowly taking over.

So the plan was to get Days renewed and then let Dena back into the building
Exactly, its almost as if Corday told Higley to go on a LOA until the show is renewed and then he will get rid of Josh or make her in charge. I say we start some type of Twitter hashtag war.
But her material starts airing just several months before they begin negotiations on the next renewal. There won't be time to change anything if her writing fails.
Or will they get a pick-up if the ratings are good enough?

Either way I'm afraid about the show's future.

Maybe it makes sense to tag Sony's Kent or someone else there? Maybe Sony cares about the show they just got renewed.

I knew PR made the right decision to jump from this sinking ship. Wish he could have taken KA out along with him ...

Unfortunately some other people on the show who were so optimistic at the 50th are going to be severely eating their words!

I am very disappointed about JG no longer with dool. I can't believe that bubble dh is still there! I have always thought in my mind that she as some kind of hold over Corday and Corday gives her want she wants. it just don't make sense that JG is out. he turned dool around. now were stuck with dh and I bet the ratings will start going down. JG was great I did not like some areas of the stories he wrote but I am 95 per cent happy. now he's gone dool is doomed to fail. what kind of hold does dg have over Corday. I hope JG has the back bone to do an interview and let us the viewer know why he is no longer with dool. a great guy like this will have no problem in finding work. as for Ken Corday hes a useless old goat that ruins everything he touches. what a joke kc and dh what a friggin match. looool

So...are we going to get the same kind of scene cutting and weird editing in a few months that we were getting allegedly due to Josh trying to turn things around after Dena went on a LOA? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens....

Why would they make this kind of decision before Griffith/Milstein's material even aired and ratings reacted with it? That alone makes me think this was long in place to take happen. Promise Dena control after renewal, but take a LOA until then.

Wow, I am shocked!! What a frigging mess this show is in.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Josh, but I've seen enough of Dena to know she sucks.

So now we possibly have 5 months of Josh and then in transition again?? I fear for the next renewal period.

I'll say this, unless Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans' characters of Steve and Kayla are tied to Ava, I say buh-bye. They and their fans only have one hope that is if Tamara sticks around and Dena continues to write for them. Otherwise with Josh and Beth gone, it's toodles. Sorry to be the kill joy here, but as a Tamara Braun and Ava fan, I can't help but do a twirl at this moment. Given how much crap both Tamara and Ava have gotten, I'm sort of taking this moment to do a victory lap. Now this is not saying Tamara will be sticking around. I have no idea how long her contract is for, but it gives me hope that perhaps Tamara might entertain the notion of coming back. Sorry S&K fans, but we Tamara fans barely get to see our girl, so this comes as a good omen for us.

I hope not. I at least want to watch a decent exit story for Abby.

It's just so frustrating, because watching the show lately you can just feel another change happening. It's slowly starting to improve again, and I'm really going to be pissed if the show gets good again during Dena's LOA.
