Long Live Stefano (RIP JOE)

I can't deal but I do see so many talking about the show being too dark and gloomy Maybe Ryan can lighting it up It seems like they really don't know what to do with the Four Soaps at times

Maybe she wasn't paid when on LOA and now they're giving her the remaining 6 months of her contract if that's possible?

OMG! DENA IS STILL THERE. She is the biggest hack ever.

Dena has history with Days. She was a staff writer at Days back in 1985. That's why Ken Corday kept her! She knows history. If James E. Reilly was alive, Ken would have asked him back before Dena because he knew how to bring ratings up!
Yeah, I don't get the whole "Dena has history" thing. In my opinion, she had one good story (the Baby Switch) that actually kept momentum for a couple of years, and I really think that story was only as popular as it was because of the actors who carried it. Dena lucked out on that one. She may have history as far as experience with the show goes, but her "history" involves some pretty awful storytelling.

Maybe they're contractually obligated to continue with Dena and plan to dump her in a few months. Josh could be coming back.

Dena could feel threatened by decent writers which causes her to go crazy. She may do better with the lesser known Quan.

I think it's possible this new team fizzles fast but I think Josh had enough of the dysfunction that is Days.

Guys, I believe we need to do something for DAYS & make a demand for better writers because this has gone far too long & DAYS needs a real good rebot! If someone can lead, I will follow!

Maybe Dena is secretly a Corday love child or something and Ken has to be loyal to her or else she'll squeal. Or something. I don't know, it's the only thing that makes sense. There is NO reason for her to be back in charge. Stefano Dimera had less lives.

Isn't a fan campaign/revolt the reason she got fired once before? I wonder if they'd respond to it a second time.

I'm not as equipped to understand the real repercussions of this as most of you, but I'm pretty sure I'm very sorry about this news if all of your reactions are anything to go by.

I just do. not. understand. the soap writing world. I just don't. It's like they constantly shuffle around the same people and just think "this is a show that's been around for 50 years, as long as we keep shoving some shit at them, our loyal viewers will watch it." How insulting. I just see this manufacturing line in my mind's eye... a moving conveyor belt that's rusted and old and out of date, but as long as it keeps moving, it's considered productive. Replace your crappy equipment Days. Quit rebuying the same one that broke down right before you threw it out the last time. What other media platform/format has such a freaking ENORMOUS wealth of time, history and opportunity to draw from? Is there no fresh young blood that wants to take this on? Or is the establishment so incestuous they'll never let anyone try?

As for the Will backlash (if that's even a factor here) the most ironic thing to me of all is that IMO, it wasn't the overall idea of having Will die that was so bad, but I'm absolutely sure TPTB don't understand this, and that's the problem. Though there would still be people who would disagree with that decision no matter what, if they had taken the time and appropriate considerations in writing that story that seem so INCREDIBLY and blatantly obvious to most of us with brains and a capacity for understanding basic human emotions... it might've been a story very worth telling. But they just flat out ruined it. A show that is literally on for an entire HOUR, 5 days a week, does not understand how to allot an adequate amount of time and depth of storytelling to a character who has been on screen for his entire life?

I mean, I nearly despised Will by the end, but what happened to him was tragic and sad and he was still loved by people on the show. But you wouldn't really know by the way it was told.

Do these people just not know how to use the Internet? I mean I feel like most of what you need to know about what keeps people engaged in television these days is spread out for the taking all over the web and they're all just ignoring it. History. Balance. Depth. Emotion. PAYOFF. Why is this so hard?

Sorry for the rant. I really don't have a dog in this fight as much as most of the rest of you but again... it's the wasted potential. I feel angry on your behalves. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I agree with your sentiments.

Here's the thing about the entertainment business: first and foremost, it's a business. Quality and integrity have no roles in business, if they exist at all. For shows that have those two virtues, it's usually just a coincidental happenstance because the show happens to be a big moneymaker. Money is the bottom line.

I'm watching old clips of Days from the 80s and it was really SO good. This genre has such a rich history and such a deep well from which to draw. We have characters, families, and friendships that have been around for decades. It is such a unique situation in the history of television, but they squander all of the potential for cheap ratings (or for what they think will be cheap ratings) - i.e., easy money.

I agree that they keep shoveling shit at the viewers because they think their loyal viewers will keep buying it. I also agree that it is VERY insulting. That's why I stopped watching the show long ago (and why I couldn't continue recently after I had returned last September/October). It is also why I hold the very unpopular opinion that the show should be canceled (and probably should have been a while ago). I don't think they should keep getting rewarded for playing and insulting the viewers.

There was and I'm sure it can be rebooted quickly again if someone wants to kick it off. I've sent a few tweets to NBC and NBCDays to express my displeasure of the show the past few months which I'm sure they knew who was heading the charge.

On another note, that wardrobe girl is still favoriting tweets about what a disaster this change is. They must really dislike Dena BTS. God, that makes me even more sad. Nothing like going to work and not liking what you're required to play.
I hope she doesn't end up losing her job by being so vocal about this.

It seems to me that we'll have six months of Josh and Beth before six months of Dena and Ryan. Maybe Josh and Beth will take DAYS to new heights where it will be harder for Dena to kill the show. Ryan Quan is new blood who could help.

The baby switch storyline, is the only storyline that all viewers loved! I liked it as well!
