RE them being gone: It's just speculation based on some of their tweets from today and what happened to them in 2009. Edited by cord08, Feb 18 2016, 10:47 PM.

I'm dying to know what she has on Corday. Does she have pictures of him fucking the family dog or something? I can't even be pissed though. I'm kind of over it all at this point. I knew she'd win the power play. I called it when she came back a year ago. She's like the bratty kid at the playground who won't share the sandbox. She doesn't play well with others, and when pressed, she pitches a fit and Corday gives her what she wants. Or she just drives everyone else crazy until they're like "fuck this bitch, I'm out." Sad to see Josh go. |

"Dena makes noises of, 'Oh yes you are wonderful, this and that' and then she writes nothing. She doesn't write stories, she writes events. It's like one event - 'let's have a bomb, let's have a plane crash' - but there is no story. She doesn't care about the rich history of the show, which is evident in what she writes. It's all out the window. She wants to write for her own characters and she wants to write stories that she thinks are interesting but nobody else does." - Erika Slezak |

Well, I don't usually swear and curse and such and even though I had a feeling from what I had heard that bad news in some regard may be coming, I still wasn't prepared to see this so allow me just to get this out... WHAT THE F**K IS WRONG WITH THIS FREAKING SHOW?!! Seriously, I get why Corday would do this. But why on earth is this allowed to happen by Sony and even NBC? Oh wait, I have my theories. Here they are... We had been hearing Days may cut back on writers so what do you do? Promote Ryan Quan, who was a writer's assistant a few years ago, who is much cheaper and keep Dena freakin Higley who is too horrible to get a job anywhere else to care how much she gets paid and get rid of Griffith. Solves a few problems. You cut some writing team costs and you eliminate the obvious battle in the writer's room. Also, Corday turned to Dena in 2003 when the show was in the midst of budget cuts. The show was on a creative high with Brash and Cwickly but they got ousted because Corday claimed Dena had a good story bible that also suited a lower budget. They obviously had to cut budget with the renewal so they may have turned to Dena, who they feel is better suited for writing in a budget. That is just one theory. Here is another...the show has been raked over the coals for months about how dark it has been. One death after another and so much tragedy and so forth. Then, yesterday they do a rape story with their leading teenage female on the heels of the Steve/Ava stuff and, while we know one was obviously done by one writer and the other one was done by another, the bulk of the audience may not know that. They know backlash is coming and they had backlash over the murders and the overall darkness for months so they announce the day after the rape story begins that Griffith is out to calm some of that done and reassure fans that things will get lighter. It's pretty damn ironic that Griffith is announced as done the day after Ciara's rape. He could be used as a scapegoat and a way for Days to get some fans off their back about the dark stories. Days always seems to do this. They axed Dena in 2011 when things got too depressing and here we go again. I wouldn't be surprised. Funny thing is Dena tells dark stories too. She just doesn't do them well and they are the wrong kind of twisted. Now, here is the other theory and the one I am choosing to believe...Corday loves Dena. He wanted her for the 50th because he is comfortable with her. Sony had been forcing Griffith on Days for years and wanted him. NBC just wanted better numbers. Everyone compromised and it was agreed to that Josh would dictate story with Dena getting her say on some things and making sure things stayed in keeping with what Corday wanted. The 50th ends. Dena takes over per a promise from Corday that he would let her get her ideas out there after the 50th. Dena's stories don't go over well with cast and crew (again) and maybe Sony gets involved too and Dena gets pushed out. Corday can't bring himself to let her go so they put her on leave to save face. Maybe she even still submits ideas or whatever but she is pretty much out. Sony brings Beth in to help. Everyone is happy. Then, we get the tense renewal negotiations. NBC slashes the licensing fee...again...and Days needs to find a way to cut budget. Corday feels more comfortable with Dena in the writer's position for that or maybe Griffith is told he has to change the stories he is working on or write certain characters out and he is not on board. His contract is running out. Corday makes a play for Dena again because he knows Josh is resistant to what needs to be done. Griffith just gets fed up and decides he wants out after all the BS or, maybe Josh is willing to compromise but ends up getting forced out because Dena gets Corday to finally do it with the renewal in hand and NBC sides with Corday because the ratings in January for when Dena was writing were higher. Sony gets outplayed and Dena returns and Griffith is either forced out or quits because he is just done with the crap he is dealing with. Then, Dena is given Ryan Quan is co-HW because he will just execute her ideas. Ryan Quan has no head writing experience. If you look back, this is what Days did with Dena in 2008 as well. I think she had 2 co-head writers that year before Tomsell were brought in and stayed. Both those co-head writers were rather inexperienced. Basically, you put someone there that she won't feel threatened by and will just do what she wants. And, because she is so damn lazy, that writer is responsible for filling in the blanks along with the rest of the writing team which burns them out and frustrates them because they have to do double the work. That is the issue and why other writes hate working with her and why so many co-head writers walk away from her. So, those are my theories. Anyone hoping Quan will do anything...don't. He's just there. He won't control any story. He won't do anything but write out Dena's ideas and get them executed. That is it. It sucks because I am all for fresh blood and I believe he is the first Asian soap co-head writer but he isn't going to do anything. It's obvious to me Corday will never be able to get anyone to head write this show except the same writers over and over. Hell, that seems to be happening with all the soaps. The soaps are so micromanaged with so much BS going on that no one outside of the same desperate pool of writers wants to write for them. Writers like Sheffer and Griffith get tossed aside because of all the BS while garbage writers like Dena Higley keep getting hired. Unfair doesn't even begin to describe that. There is hope (and not just because we will get 5-6 months of Josh and Beth at least). I always try to stay positive and I do think this may not stick. We are already seeing a Days staff member on Twitter RTing tweets bashing this change. There is no way the cast and crew like this. You know certain actors hate this. Maybe those actors will be fired but not all of them will be. If those actors push hard enough, they may be able to do something. One thing is for sure...we all can do something. We did it before. I'm not usually one to campaign but, just like the last time, this is an exception. This could work. Twitter, facebook, and phone campaigns. Bombard the studio. Bombard TPTB and their twitter and facebook feeds. Bombard the actors with tweets and facebook posts. Help motivate them to put a stop to this. And don't just go crazy and act like some irrational soap fan. Just like the last campaign to oust Higley, be concerned but rational. Make suggestions for what you want to see, not demands. Don't make it just about your favorite couples and characters. This isn't a fanbase kind of thing. It's a "I'm concerned and want my show to survive" kind of thing. One good suggestion I have is to suggest to TPTB and the actors that the show hire fresh blood as a head writer. Promote from within the writing team. Maybe bring back someone who used to be on the writing team who has experience with the show. Let's try something new, not the same old. |

Can't say I'm all that surprised. Corday needs to RETIRE. I can think of a few actors that are probably happy but that's about it. JG doesn't seem to like to stick around anywhere very long. I guess we'll never know what stories were his and which weren't his. |

My take on today's news? It's pretty obvious we do not have our fingers on the pulse of the soap world. Did anyone predict this? |

In 2011, there was a huge campaign led by this board to oust Higley and it worked. Petitions are good but more is needed. Social media is the best way. Twitter bombs, trending on twitter and facebook...get the attention of execs/cast/crew/writers on social media...that kind of thing. Call the studio and just keep hitting them in all these ways to the point where you annoy the hell out of them and they have to do something. I didn't think it would work but it DID the first time. It could again with the same commitment and dedication. |

Sadly, I'm all for a campaign, but I doubt Corday would make any changes before her fall material even starts airing. Also, this is the same woman who was fired twice and brought back. At this point, I'm just done. Wish they would just bring back Sheri Anderson to end the show. |

Considering the last time Higley got axed it was only a short-time after her then co-HW Whitesell was, anything could happen. We all just have to organize and really get right to it and start campaigning now. The show is going to be dark the entire month of March. It's perfect timing to try to force a change so that the show still has some time to get things together. Corday just needs to feel the pressure and if this is done as well as the last time, he will have no choice but to do something because the network, Sony, cast, etc will be all over him about it. |
