I don't understand how this show has stayed on the air as long as it has honestly.
Since we know cast cuts will be around the corner.... Here's hoping that my favs get a wedding and get THE HELL out of Salem because I known damn well that Deana will write NOTHING good for them!

I think it's also significant to look at the timing. They're about to take a month long break. They couldn't have created a more perfect opportunity for fans to complain loudly. It's actually so perfect that I wonder if it's intentional.

What is Tom Langan, Brash, Cwickly or Sheffy up to these days? Would we want one of them over DHig?

That is all the more reason for people to campaign. It worked before and it can now. I do think it can get results here. Dena was already on a LOA. The only support she has is Corday and if the network, Sony, etc come down on him, he will get rid of her just like he has in the past. Put the pressure on him and he will get rid of her.

Although I highly doubt Sheffer would ever come back given how he was treated.

I'm not totally opposed to Quan (although the fact that he basically wrote under Higley is troubling), but keeping Dena is idiotic. What I find so weird is that it really seemed as though Sony had gained some more influence over the show with the hiring of Griffith and Milstein, and now they're both gone. I don't get it. I would have thought they'd want to keep some "influence" in the writers' room.

Does anyone know where that interview is that Higley did...I think it was after she was fired in 2011, but before she was rehired in 2015, where she talks about how TPTB kept asking her "then what?"

Dena tweeted this back in August. You can't believe a thing she says. I don't see romance.
[twitter=DenaHigley/status/636023529423507456] I just responded to that Tweet asking her where those stories were.

Remind me what TPTB did to Sheffer? They pushed him out for a writer who would agree to scab during the writer's strike. Of course, they lied and claimed it was Dena's husband and not Dena so they could keep her after the strike.

On her writing process: "It's very simple: I mull over story ideas all the time and I'll jot them down and bring all these little slips of paper. Chris and Gary and I will sit down and I will just run crazy, insane ideas by them. I'll see their faces like, 'Not so much' or 'Okay, that's a bad idea.' But then every once in a while, it will be like, 'Aha! That's something,' and the three of us will just start riffing. But it's got to come from me because that's my job. I don't want to look around at everybody going, 'Well did anybody see any movies last night? Does anybody have any ideas?' I've worked for head writers like that and it sucks. We're a team. Gary used to be a writer and he thinks like a writer, but Chris and I are still the writers and he doesn't push into our world. We get along really well. Chris is so talented and creative, and Gary is so brilliant, and it's so much fun and I feel safe enough to come in with really bad ideas."

Nevermind. I found it.

"In my spare time I was responsible for the entire content of a television show that airs at one o'clock in the afternoon. A show that was suffering dwindling ratings. Ratings that were my responsibility to raise. In other words, I was head writer for DAYS OF OUR LIVES. It was a stress-filled, nail-biting, soul-sucking job. And it seemed as though I had about a hundred people breathing down my neck all the time."
"There were network representatives, producers, various types of executives . . . all of whom were my bosses. I call them the Suits. I took meetings with the Suits at least once a week, and they were constantly asking me the same question over and over: 'What comes next?' 'Yeah, Sami shooting EJ in the head sounds good, but then what's next?' 'The airplane cabin loses pressure mid-flight and everyone onboard is dead. But then what?' 'Hope walks in her sleep, mugs wealthy men, then during the day has amnesia, works as a cop investigating crimes she has committed . . . but then what?'"
"Soap scribes write thousands of words a day. Seven acts a show, five shows a week. We use ridiculous over-the-top phrases like vortex of emotions and gut-punched and thunderbolt of inspiration, but we never get to write the words. The End. And that is why the Suits keep asking the $64,000 question: 'And then what?'"
"My bosses kept 'reminding' me that the future of DAYS OF OUR LIVES depended on me and me alone. We were an institution. We were a franchise. We couldn't just fold up our tent and walk away. We'd been on the air forty-five years. If we got canceled it would be for one reason -- because I couldn't hack it. They told me this so many times that I actually started to believe them."

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I'm beyond bummed. Kayla belongs as Salem's doctor, it's a perfect fit and has been forever coming to begin with. Steve belongs with her. I was looking forward to John's story. Now I guess I have to hope it's at least a last good one for J&M and family. So much for BlackPatch investigations, though I was a bit worried that hasn't taken off yet. I was hoping Steve would be involved in John's story too.
The ironic part is well probably see BlackPatch and John's story start soon. Because Josh wrote it once Higley got locked away. But she's escaped. Oh I was in the don't need a wedding camp. But now I totally need the supercouples remarried before the wheels come off. You'll just get another cheap, pathetic hospital wedding good-bye as we shove you out the door. Be grateful if we don't get that shit.
And if I had to bet Drake walks within a year, slamming Dena/Corday on his final way out. Deidre may not be far behind either.

Well. If that's how she writes, I completely and totally understand why her stories are so terrible. It's like she goes from brainstorming right to a final draft. I mean, my elementary teachers taught me how to write better than that. Ridiculous.

Seriously, the top actors on this show need to do a mass walk-out or something!
If any of the big names get let go this time around... they are flippin' idiots if they EVER come back! And honestly, if I was them I would friggin quit first and not give them the satisfaction!

Those two interviews exhibit exactly why Dena Higley should not be writing for any show.
And they, along with what we have seen from her over the years, are also why so many of us know her writing and why we can tell the difference between her writing and others. Her influence is always so obvious.
