As bad as it gets I will always hope for a renewal, I can take a break if I don't like it, I have many times in the past. Writers come and writers go, it can be salvaged again when they eventually get rid of Dena.

Once it's gone it's gone, and I would hate that.

I know you're right and I may be in the take a break camp. Don't think I have another round of Higley in me.

I read somewhere in the topic that they are taking March and April off?
4 months ahead instead of 6, that would be good.

Both Dena and Josh said they"inherited" it. Dena said they made a lot of changes. Dena and Josh were credited as the Headwriters when it started airing.

I don't think they both said that.

I know Dena said that in her facebook chat she made in late August, transcribed here:
http://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/single/?p=9386897&t=9250425
Q. Who's idea was the serial killer story line? Yours, Josh's or Kens?
Dena: We inherited the necktie killer story. Of course we change it a lot

But Josh didn't mention it in the magazine interview summarized here:
https://www.facebook.com/notes/days-of-our-lives-forum-spoiler-page/sod-interview-with-josh-griffith/1003540706343816/
(I have the original magazine issue, and checked that article and the summary is correct.)
As the summary says:
S O D wanted to know if Josh has any goals set for the show that he wants to see. He says his goal is to never allow there to be a lull. To keep the stories flowing into one another, all crests and no drops. That and to stay true to what they are setting out to do, which is to make the show the best on the air. He wants it filled with romance, action, and suspense….the Hitchcock of daytime TV.

From my copy of the magazine, an exact quote: Josh said "It's the Hitchcock of daytime", in response to being asked about his goals.
From my copy of the magazine: He does *NOT* mention "inheriting" the serial killer storyline;
but he does say Corday had the idea of the bicentennial.

Was there another interview with Josh? Did he mention "inheriting" the serial killer story idea?

I guess I took it from the tvsourcemagazine.com. Not sure who said it to them.

I don't remember any other interviews with JG but Michael Logan had a couple of quotes from him in his articles, so maybe they talked  .

Josh's interview was in the issue of Digest that arrived in stores (in the mail)
on Friday Aug. 28th.
So he would have actually given the interview *at least* 10-14 days before that, in order to allow time for printing and distribution of the magazine.

Dena's facebook chat was Aug 24th, probably because she knew people would be getting Josh's interview in Digest in the mail within a few days.

All I could find from tvsourcemagazine.com was this -
-- dated Sept 14, 2015
On page two of this article:
http://tvsourcemagazine.com/2015/09/days-of-our-lives-creative-course-correction-is-off-to-a-great-start/2/
"A longtime Days of our Lives staple, a serial killer, is being used to usher out the exits of some characters. Though the new writers inherited the idea, they've used it thus far"

That was dated 3 weeks after Dena's facebook chat, so I'm guessing that chat was their source.

I checked tvguide.com and tvinsider.com for Michael Logan commenting on Josh Griffith, but I couldn't find anything saying the killer storyline was inherited.

It would be an improvement but I'd eventually like to see it down to 2-3.

The show needs to be able to react faster to stories that are not working.

And also the opposite, not dropping stories and characters too soon.
Paul Telfer was gone before his first episode aired.

I agree, it probably was their source although for some reason I didn't think that informal private facebook group chat was so well known lol.

I just hope there is some intrepid reporter out there who will get the details on this latest turn of events (and not just Voldemort's official version). This has to be THE behind-the-scenes story of the year!

When someone leaves to "pursue other opportunities," you just know their ass was fired!

R.I.P., DAYS...I didn't think they really deserved a renewal this time. Now I KNOW they won't next time. Stick a fork in it....
With these ratings they did deserve the renewal this year.

But next year :scared: :scared:

I suppose that technically, yes, they did...but I know personally, even though there are *some* interesting stories happening the last couple of days....I've barely tuned in since October. When I do watch, I find myself doing laundry or checking my facebook or....anything but paying attention, really.

But honestly...To have Dena take the reins on this completely? I expect a lot of angry fans, a lot more character assassination and to lose actors that I actually give a shit about watching. My opinions, obviously, are purely selfish...But I know I'm not alone in all of them either! Might as well have hired Tomlin back as her co-HW. :drunk:

The Griffith interview I mentioned above was
in the Digest issue in the mail - or at stores - on Aug 28th,
(but the front cover date is Sept 7th).

--------------------------------------

UPDATE:
I just found an earlier reference...
Digest - actually in the mail or at stores on Aug 14th.
(but date on front cover was Aug 24th).
Summary here:
http://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/9249071/1/

Exact quote from my copy of the magazine:
Corday: "It was discussed as long as a year ago, to coincide with all the celebration of the 50th anniversary, that there would be a serial murderer in town months beforehand"

So Corday says in early August that the idea of a serial killer was discussed "as long as a year ago" ... indicating he didn't remember exactly when the discussion first took place.
The question remains ... did he discuss it with TomSell; or was he interviewing potential replacement headwriters and discussing their visions? Griffley started in Feb 2015, but how long before that did he interview them? We may never know.

It does sound like Corday had the serial killer idea for some time, (whether it was his idea or TomSell's I don't know) ... so he may have pitched it to the new HW team, and then Dena's facebook chat said that she and Griffith inherited the idea.

Another thought ....

Griffith is also a novelist and he has written several books that have serial killer or macabre themes. He also inspired a book by Michael Malone called "The Killing Club based on an idea by Josh Griffith".
You can find all these on amazon.com.
All of this was from before Griffith was hired by Corday.

When Griffith's facebook was visible (before he locked or deleted it), I noticed that he had reviewed books by other authors, several of which have serial killer themes. He posted about those books on his facebook in 2014.

It's possible that even if Corday had already requested a serial killer storyline, it might have been something that Josh wanted to do anyhow.

I had a good night sleep & wake up to this shit news? WTF are they thinking? No wonder it's all becoming so Rafe-centric, she's writing for her pet. Now, how many times is Ava gonna return? Or TB as another character that Higley feels like using to break up a couple? S&K? J&M?

Jesus Hopping Christ - this is just surreal. And not in a good way.

I return to my original post when they brought her on - http://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/single/?p=9260365&t=9222547

Well. This obviously sucks. And what's his face isn't going to last. Some actors are going to go back to work next week and film their surprise final scenes.

Yeah, I'm definitely worried about the vets.

Anyone have a rundown of Higley's favorites and disliked characters?
Fave: Rafe and Hope

Least fave:
Everyone else
Really have to wonder what could have enticed Freddie Smith to return as Dena had a reputation for not wanting to write the gay storyline. And if there is any truth to the mega buzz about Chandler Massey possibly returning I can't imagine what could induce him to do it knowing Will and Sonny were not close to top shelf to Dena.

I honestly don't get it! WTF is going through Corday's head???? He can NOT be this blind. Hopefully, we do not lose John/Marlena....as the last time she was running things, the DH's were fired. Not impressed.

The writing change probably literally happened this past week off-screen.
