In trying to find a little spark of optimism in this dark crap hole last night, all I could find was the glimmer of hope that Higley is still on LOA. In which case, she'd still officially be the head writer that's left with Griffith leaving, but not actually, physically, going back to work. Ryan Quan is Beth Milstein ala summer 2006 (interim), while they are scrambling trying to secure or find a new head writer.

And that's my message of hope.
Yeah, there is that slim possibility. But I mean, if Dena's not coming back, why not announce her exit already? I assume her contract was as long as Griffith's, so if it was a year contract, they could just release her at this point.

The fact that they never officially confirmed Dena's LOA or Beth joining is interesting, though.

God, I hope you're somehow right.

Another name I saw thrown out there today as a possible replacement is Sri Rao. He wrote for GH: Night Shift, a GH spinoff from the 2000s. I didn't watch, but a lot of people seemed to like it. And according to a tweet from January, he'd still be interesting in head writing GH if given the opportunity. He's also Indian American, if I'm not mistaken. An Indian and Asian American heading a soap? Damn. Call him up, Days!

Just to respond to the bold part, there may be a strong legal reason for not announcing anything. If Higley took her leave due to medical issues for herself or a family member, she is subject to laws preventing an employer from retaliating against an employee for taking such a leave. Even if that is not Days' actual reason for terminating her contract (or declining to renew it), TPTB may have to be very careful about how they address Dena's future with the show.

This is what I am holding out hope for! If she is still on a LOA can they just announce her termination if she is on contract?

Just an FYI, Ryan Quan's FB profile says he's in a relationship with Neil Hultgren.
And Neil Hultgren was the name of the character that outed Will. Guess we know who did the breakdown or writing for that story line.

Now that's interesting!

Wow. You're right. I had no idea what Neil's last name was.

Soapcentral bio for "Will Horton",

Cool.
That was the character portrayed by Kris Kristopherson's son Jesse.

Neil and Will were at "the Spot", on the night that Will was accused of some crime, and Neil was Will's alibi, and came forward, which outed Will.

The possibility of Will being resurrected and Wilson being written by an LGBT writer is kind of exciting.

The possibility of Will coming back is something I was looking forward too last week when we had that speculation. And selfishly, it wouldn't hurt Marlena's cause to have Will in town. Lucas too

Forgot to add John has a gay son too.

IDK what to think about that. I mean, on his own this guy could be a good thing. But I just don't believe for a second he's going to be able to do anything. However, his presence could be a sign of where TPTB are hoping to go.

The idea of a young, gay, Asian writer is really interesting to me. Having him anywhere near Higley frightens me.

If she really hasn't been back from LOA, they could potentially be looking for an experienced head writer to pair him with. So they're letting her return from LOA (where it's nearly impossible to fire someone from) and they'll replace her in the next few months once they have someone.

It could also tie into the extended break.

Isn't Whitesell also openly gay? I thought so? So, it wouldn't be the first time WilSon has been written by a gay writer.

I didn't either, I just googled the name & it came up in one of the google entries. I wish my menopausal brain was that on top of things.

I actually enjoyed most of Night Shift.

I mean, they could have the same contract (more than 1 year) and Griffith asked to be released, which they agreed to (mutual). And Dena hasn't asked, and it'd cost money to release her. Or they could have different contracts (for various reasons). Having an official head writer (a terrible one, but still) while they look for another would appear more stable than another regime change so soon. Maybe Griffith walked abruptly and they're trying to secure someone.

I don't know how legalities would work about that, but when I was on sick leave from my job, I willingly terminated my contract (mutual decision) because my job couldn't do it, nor was it legal for them to release me while I was sick. It went on longer than I had ever anticipated, and they deserved to free up my trainee spot. In Norway, I could easily do that because there's a system that actually takes care of you even if you're not connected to a work place. I don't know how that would work over there.

I want to be right.

Gosh, now you're giving me more hope about this LOA thing. Ack. I cannot get my hopes up. LOL.

I mean, my gut says Higley's back and Josh got pushed out. Josh really seemed to like writing for Days, so I'm not sure why he'd just leave on his own. However, Josh was also allegedly fired from Y&R for creative differences and/or inability to work with the EP. So, maybe Higley wasn't the only reason he left/got fired. Maybe he had issues with someone else?

I know I'm grasping at straws here, but this whole situation is just so strange, and I want to be proven wrong on this whole thing about Dena.
