Days is so screwed. Now I can't blame Kate Mansi for leaving.
KM left before all of this, though.

Soap Opera Digest is reporting a major behind the scenes shake up at NBC's Days of our Lives. Co-head writer Josh Griffith, who was hired as part of the show's creative revamp in 2015 has left the show.

No other information regarding the reason for Griffith's departure is available at press time.

Breakdown writer Ryan Quan, who's been with the show in various capacities since 2008, has been promoted to co-head writer with Dena Higley.

Days of our Lives publicity issued this statement about the behind the scenes change:
"Days of our Lives is pleased to announce that staff writer Ryan Quan has joined co-head writer Dena Higley to form a new head writing team. Josh Griffith has left the show to pursue other projects and interests, and we wish him the best."

It sounds like JG got fed up with Days.

It's weird how Rafe, Hope, and Nicole are Dena's favorite characters and yet, they have the worst writing. Dena hates Stayla, so it wasn't unexpected that she would give them Ava.

Why are we stuck with her? :flipoff:
I wonder what she would do with Rafe, Hope, and Nicole at her disposal- like would she stick with Rope? Switch to Nafe? Play with Nope? She seems a bit like a mad scientist and if Quan was with Passions for that long, this is going to get really interesting

Let's guess who the first cast member to comment is.

I'm going with Galen or his wife.
Here comes GG with another "Finally!" tweet.

He probably heard Dena was staying and said, "Fuck it."

Why? Why in the world would they let Dena Higley (who almost has ruined the show on numerous occasions) back? And, on top of that, why in the possible world would they get rid of the MUCH better of their two head writers? I guess I'll be watching until August and then take another long hiatus. I can't do more Higley crap.

So unhappy to hear Dena is back!!! Now that her writing was over thought Josh could do damage control for Stayla!!! They are my ultimate all-time favorite couple and will be so upset if they let go and aren't written true to their characters. SN and MBE have been soooo happy with the how things were done when they first came back, I don't want to lose them again!!!

I wonder if he left on his own accord, or was let go. Maybe he was annoyed that KC wanted to keep DH, and he was like "see ya".

I mean, this makes no sense.
This show is garbage with Dena in control of the writing. KC is an idiot . :drunk:

I doubt RQ will have as much power as Dena as he has no HW experience. He'll probably help to materialize her ideas.

Ryan Quan's bio (jason47.com):

Here's the updated one I just posted, adding the newer Emmy info.

Ryan Shigeru Quan graduated from UCLA in 1999 and started off his soap career by winning Procter & Gamble's writing contest for college students. Quan was the writers' assistant for "Passions" from 1999-2005 and served as the show's website coordinator from 2005-2007. He joined "Days of Our Lives" on April 3, 2007 as the show's writers' assistant. He started doing double duty as a dialogue writer from September 2008-November 2008 and September 2009-March 2011. Quan has been doing double duty as both a breakdown writer and writers' assistant since September 2011. He won his first Daytime Emmy Award in 2012 and has been nominated a total of four times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015). Quan, 38, was born on September 9, 1977 in Los Angeles, California.

I have to wonder which writer chose to have Hope kill Stefano in cold blood vs killing him in self defense? There has been A LOT of backlash over Hope and Rafe becoming dirty cops.

I could even be onboard with getting rid of them both in that case, but I can't see any excuse for bringing Higley back.

I think there was drama between Josh and Dena, leading to her leave of absence. When she was welcomed back, he probably said he was leaving.

Anyone have a rundown of Higley's favorites and disliked characters?
Fave: Rafe and Hope

Least fave:
Everyone else
Two of my least favorite people, lmao.

If Freddie wasn't returning at some point this year, I'd peace out now.

Quan was the writers' assistant for "Passions" from 1999-2005- this is hilarioussssssss
I'm actually really glad about that. JER may have told way OTT stories, but he didn't miss beats & nothing about his writing was one note. He didn't write events, he wrote stories. The fact that Ryan learned under him for so many years gives me some hope.

So excited to see more of Rafe, Hope, and Daniel's impending resurrection. Oh and lots of "bad girl" Nicole. Maybe another miscarriage?

Did JG leave or was he fired? I want to know. I am shocked because the actors all spoke so highly of him and any comment about the writers were strictly about him and never DH. He just seemed to be more of the driver.

It may be an unpopular opinion but I would have prefered Griffith/Tomlin duo over unpredictable Dena.

Freddie is why I'm watching again. Paired with her love of Justin and Adrienne, I might get some Kiriakis brothers out of this
