SandersDeadline.com http://deadline.com/2016/02/queen-sugar-own-drama-series-oprah-winfrey-cast-bianca-lawson-greg-vaughan-1201707791/blogs.indiewire.com http://blogs.indiewire.com/shadowandact/bianca-lawson-henry-g-sanders-greg-vaughan-join-queen-sugar-cast-20160223The Wrap http://www.thewrap.com/ava-duvernays-own-series-queen-sugar-adds-three-to-cast/Bianca Lawson (Pretty Little Liars), Greg Vaughan (Days of Our Lives) and Henry G. Sanders (Selma) have joined the cast of OWN’s new original drama series Queen Sugar, from Ava Duvernay and Warner Horizon Television. Written, directed and executive produced by Duvernay, the contemporary series is adapted from the first novel by Natalie Baszile. It chronicles the lives and loves of the estranged Bordelon siblings -- Nova (Rutina Wesley), Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) -- who come together after a family tragedy to run an ailing sugar cane farm in the Deep South. The series will begin production this month in Louisiana and Los Angeles. Lawson plays Darla, the ex-girlfriend of Ralph Angel and mother of their 6-year-old son Blue, whom she has been prevented from seeing as she battles drug addiction. Vaughan is Calvin, a cop and longtime lover of Nova, who shares a deep connection with her despite being married.Sanders, in a recurring role, plays Prosper Denton, a farmer and old friend of Ernest (guest star Glynn Turman). The series is executive produced by Winfrey, DuVernay and Melissa Carter. DuVernay developed Queen Sugar for television, wrote its pilot episode and will direct multiple episodes of the show’s first season. -------------------------------- IMDB page for the series "Queen Sugar" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4419214/fullcredits
Cool for GV that he landed the role on a primetime show :) Days producers and writers are stupid who never wrote exciting for Eric just saying.
I thought Tomsell wrote well for him the first 15 months or so. They lost interest after Kristen left. I did not think any storyline was interesting with Eric the rape story was more Kristen's story. Elephant story was a big joke, would have liked to have seen a more interesting Eric than what was shown on scren, GV is really good looking, but not even that come across on screen he was styled so boring first in a boring Priest costume and then whatever. Did not like the whole Priest thing . Had high hopes when they cast GV but as usual it was a disappointment.

Melissa Archer has a screening of a movie she was in, its about bullying. From the pictures they have shown on twitter and their facebook page, South 32, it looks good!

GH is in serious need of a cast cut. So many newbies the show has become unrecognizable. I sure hope it isn't Days. Funny. It would say that Days is the show that has flooded with "newbies" and is now unrecognizable. I know that Steve, Shawn, Belle, Claire, Andre and Ava are legacy characters but to me who has only been watching since mid-2011, they are newbies along with Lani, nu-Ciara, nu-Chase, nu-Theo, nu-Joey and Deimos.

I think one of the biggest issues is that headwriters have incentives to write for the characters they have created over the characters they have not created. I don't know if they touch more royalties or if it's just an ego thing but it's annoying because it's usually not what's best for the show.
Look at the current characters on the show and how many have been created (or co-created) by Higley: Rafe, Chad, Joey, Gabi, Eduardo, Lani, Fynn, Ava, Deimos, Summer, Dario. That's 11 characters. 9 of them were introduced or re-introduced over the past 6 months. Meanwhile, 10 characters were written out over the past 6 months and only 1 of them was a Higley creation: Daniel.

I know that Steve, Shawn, Belle, Claire, Andre and Ava are legacy characters but to me who has only been watching since mid-2011, they are newbies along with Lani, nu-Ciara, nu-Chase, nu-Theo, nu-Joey and Deimos. They may be newbies to you, but this is a show with 50 years of history. Legacy characters are tied to that history because they either are the characters who gave the show its high-points or are related to those characters. Characters in Horton, Brady, Kiriakis, and DiMera families have a place in the show purely by virtue of those relationships, because those families have been so integral to the show's history.
Maybe instead of dismissing legacy characters as newbies, you should consider learning the history of the show. It's one of the things that make soap operas different from other television.

Writers may have some control over characters they create if they are used in another medium (e.g., movies or books), but that depends on their contracts. I have to believe that soap opera contracts provide that any creations of a writer for the show are deemed "works for hire" under copyright law, which would make the characters the property of the producers.
In Higley's case, I think it is just ego that leads her to focus on her favorites. She likes them and does not care what the audience thinks.

A good headwriter should want to write for the characters/actors the audience wants to see, regardless if they have created them or not or if they are legacy or not. Because caring about what the audience wants would help them keep their job longer.

Because caring about what the audience wants would help them keep their job longer. The thing is, it is not very easy for them to know what the audience wants. Social media isn't representative of the whole audience.
I still think, NBC probably should invest some money into research and do something like CBS did re: Y&R. In cooperation with the Nielsen company they developed a survey and asked viewers to fill it out. The way they did it was not representative either, but at least they received feedback from thousands of viewers.

[twitter=SourceRyan/status/702330859010056192] Brady and Summer interesting? John's past interesting? I don't think so. And if Ciara's rape focuses more on poor, sad Chase forget it.
The Chabby wedding is the only thing to perk me up to watching Days right now. It'd amaze me if they could actually focus attention on a young, hot couple and deliver something dramatically romantic for them. Dazzle me Days.

[twitter=SourceRyan/status/702330859010056192] John's story has been so disappointing.
It started in September and almost nothing happened except that day when he casually met his mother with no build up. It was so lame. We have barely seen John since and now the story is gonna climax in a couple of weeks out of left field. It's really hard to care about any of this.

Short cast list. It is, and it sounds like it could be good. I loved the bookclub episode with those ladies, as well as the bachelorette party for Hope.
Oh, maybe it's some kind of bachelorette party/wedding shower?? Sorry, I'm desperate. I need it to be something happy. LOL.
