I really appreciated this episode. Whether it was planned or not, I'm glad they decided to devote an entire episode to Stefano and those whose lives he affected most. It's not something that happens on DAYS often. I think they got the right characters involved too. There wasn't a single character I would've replaced or added. Some might say Steve and Kayla should've been there, but I don't really agree. They never really faced off with Stefano, aside from the brief Benji ordeal in the late 80s. And it wasn't until Steve's presumed death was rewritten to be at the hands of the DiMeras that they really fell into that orbit along with John, Marlena, Bo, Hope, etc. Same with Jennifer. Yes, the DiMeras kept Jack and Jennifer apart for years, but it wasn't really ever Stefano orchestrating it. It was either Peter or Andre. Though I still would've kept Steve, Kayla and Jennifer out of the episode, it would've been nice to hear someone mention them by name, just so everyone was really covered.

I loved that every single DiMera child was referenced. Including Peter! We never get a mention of him. I hope Scott Reeves chose not to watch this episode. I still question if it's in Missy's contract that there are no mentions of Peter in scenes with Jennifer.

The flashbacks were great. I think they could've gotten a better one for John though. I really loved Abe's flashback with Stefano hugging Lexie and giving Abe an evil grin. It really showed how manipulative Stefano was and it was Abe's first indication that Lexie would be influenced soon.

I liked the scene cutting to Roman when Kate said Stefano was the only one who truly got her. In fact, I'm glad we got so much Roman in this episode. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm appreciating the increase in screen time for Roman. The character is such an important part of DAYS history, especially when it comes to Stefano's history. There would be no celebration if not for Roman. His rivalry with Stefano is what started all of this. Brady/DiMera feud be damned!

Something I've been confused about for a while now is Roman's face. Did he get plastic surgery? I know when Kristen brought him into John and Marlena's wedding, his face was bandaged. Was it ever confirmed that he had plastic surgery and that's why he looked different in Josh Taylor form? If so, I don't know why we can't get Wayne Northrop flashbacks. Then again, it could be that Wayne doesn't give the show permission to use his image. Just something I've been wondering.

I liked Hope staying quiet throughout the episode. And the subtle looks she shared with Roman as everyone discussed the world being a better place without Stefano.

I thought ending the episode with Stefano orchestrating the symphony was awesome. Great choice!
He didn't get surgery. Josh's Roman was supposed to be the Roman they all recognized.

Ugh! I think it would be much better had it been written that he got surgery to repair his face and that's why his face was bandaged. I just remember Marlena and everyone being cautious about believing it was Roman under the bandages. So maybe that's why I started to question if he got plastic surgery or not.

Anyway, this works fine. Honey, you look horrific.

Everything about this episode was A+. The opening high camera shot looking down on the windows at the Brady pub with the rain coming down and the thunder and lightening was a spectacular opening. The rest of the show did not disappoint - the only thing I would change is to cut some of Kate's stuff that seemed superfluous.

I know I'll complain as things smooth back out in the next few weeks, but if every episode gets this much attention to detail and the story lines improve greatly, reserving my right to snark endlessly when it doesn't, I will enjoy the next 6 months before Higley destroys it all again.

ETA - I could list my "nitpicks" with this episode because I have a few, but considering the crapfest of horrible stories and falling production values we've seen since December this episode seems like a turning point that the worst of Higley has passed - for now.

This episode really made it hard for me to believe that Hope ever had a thing for Roman.
EWW! WHAT? SERIOUSLY????? :x
Hope was 17 & infatuated with Roman (even though he was married to Marlena). Bo teased Hope about it numerous times & Hope was made to look like a fool on a few occasions (trying to "impress" Roman with a sexier/mature dress, making a scrapbook album of newspaper clippings that mentioned Roman, & going to the fishing cabin to deliver Roman some supplies).
That's just... EWW! lol

Well. The comment in SOD about Ryan Quan having a lot of input in this episode and loving Kate and Victir definitely seems to be legit. Sigh.

Even though I want Victor and Caroline to be together, I wouldn't be opposed to a Victor and Kate reunion.

Kate was at her best in Victor's orbit imo.

I actually loved Kate and Victor in Tuesday's episode. It was really the most relevant Kate has been in the past few years. I hope this is the Kate that moves forward...

I don't disagree but I'm so sick of her.

I take that as a positive then. I hope that this is what Ryan's work is like and that Dena regains very little control if that's the case.

Yea I kind of feel the same. The Kate Victor was too much but I enjoyed most of the rest of it. Really enjoyed how they accurately depicted J&M's love also.

I wanted more flashbacks! There were too few.

I loved Deidre's cleavage in the 1996 one.

They never said this was a group meeting for victims did they? I saw NOTHING wrong with Victor and Kate being there, they both had alot of history with Stefano, especially Kate.

But I am so tired of John Aniston playing almost everything as comic relief, even scenes and dialogue that are "normal" (for lack of a better word) and don't call for it. Arianne Zucker used to do that alot too, before Daniel's death. It's so annoying and makes it harder to take the character seriously.

I just caught up. I thought this was a good episode! Especially the ending with Stephano conducting was perfect, that moment that Hope saw Stephano in the pub was ominous, the "checkmate" toast by John was very fitting.

As for things that may or may not be missing... as someone not steeped in knowledge of all the history, I think it gave a good idea of where Stephano stood in the minds of the people of Salem and the feeling of "good riddance" juxtaposed with some other softer emotions (by Kate) and guilt (by Hope for killing him), and even Victor with his long standing rivalry really worked for me (funny how Victor seems one of the "good guys" at the moment). All that really gave it a good balance.

Also too many flashbacks could have bogged it down too much, and flashbacks that needed explaining just would have made it too complicated. (regretting not seeing all of Roman's history notwithstanding. I mean not all current viewers even know who Wayne Northrup is, so some explaining would be needed there.) And I think it best to let Hope not have an old flashback. She is very much in a different place to everyone else, and it would be strange for other people to have a flash back on her behalf.

Also seeing all the talk about JT v WN makes my head spin (I don't personally have an issue with JT). I guess some characters really should stay dead, lol. Although, it seems to me, they do need some vets to remain as sort of anchors for the families of Salem. So what ya going to do, lol??

... just my 2 cents worth here.

Well I'm sorry, but it was a memorable story and should have been at least mentioned. I know Hope is front and center having killed Stefano, but they should have spent some time on Bo & Hope vs. Stefano.
Memorably BAD. I'm sorry too, LOL but that story went on for an interminable amount of time and even reared its ugly head again a few years ago. It was a disaster, some of KA's worst acting, and I'm so glad they left it far away from this episode.
Drake and Kristian were both awful during the Alamainia storyline four years ago, but the original Princess Gina storyline had some good stuff that could have been used.

I agree and I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that with AZ (before Daniel's death) too. It got to the point where it seemed like always trying to deliver a punchline of a joke.

I ultimately wasn't bothered by the lack of flashback because I found the great majority of the choices were of low to no effectiveness.

I would have used this for Hope from Maison Blanche, 35-1:15.
