On his past writing experience: "I interned at Sunset Beach, NBC Daytime and Passions when it first started up. When Passions was canceled, I moved to Days as an assistant. A couple years later, I was hired as a script writer and then later as a breakdown writer."

On his history with the show: "Having grown up watching Days, I came in already knowing every character like they were old friends. I'm looking forward to 'playing' with these characters I've known for years. [As co-headwriter] I get to have greater control over the overall picture and story direction."

Who are his favorite characters to write for? "The characters who speak their minds are always fun -- Victor, Kate, Nicole, etc."

Favorite scenes/episodes he's written: "I guess what sticks out most in my mind are Will's coming out scenes, anything Kristen, EJ's death and the tribute to Stefano. As a breakdown writer I got to suggest things, like having Ciara talk about stealing a jacket around the 50th anniversary to sort of mirror Julie's shoplifting in the first episode."

Win!

Can we let this guy write solo?

Point of clarification: The question was who are his favorite characters to write *dialog* for. (They didn't ask who he likes to write story for)

YEEESSSSSSS! :hail: :hail: :hail: Time to bring my girl Kristen back to throw some shade at St. Theresa! Bring on the mocking, the eye rolling, the reminders of how much Brady was into her (as opposed to Theresa), etc! Kristen won't be fooled by Theresa acting like a reformed good girl, either. She has that chick's number and won't let her get away with her crap.

Why do we have stupid Summer when we could have had a far superior storyline with Kristen? *head scratching*

Do your thing, Ryan Quan!

Yeah, but it gives you some idea of what kind of characters he likes.

I'm hoping this means better writing for Kate, in particular.

Thanks for posting the links and the summary.

I like what he's saying. Let's hope he can write a compelling show.

Hmmm.... it looks like RQ knows DAYS history which is a plus. I am willing to give him a chance!

I like that he said "anything Kristen."

Not a particular scene, not a particular story. Just Kristen in general. Because no one else compares and Ryan Quan knows it.

I would love to have Kristen back in a story that doesn't involve Brady and Theresa.

On the Merry-go-round of headwriters, I'm glad to have some new blood. If he can fix Kate and Nicole, plus bring back Kristen, he'll be on my good side.

Given his age (which is close to mine) I'm guessing the 90's Days was pretty formative to his likes and dislikes for the show. The Kristen thing fits that too.

As opposed to Josh Griffith, who ignored it.

I wish he had said to the HWs "why don't we use Kristen instead of a stranger (Summer) ?" LOL.

Maybe this guy can actually make Kate and Nicole relevant (and interesting) again. It's a shame what's happened to both of those characters.

Especially Kate. She used to be a badass. Now she's written as a joke in an attempt to build up "poor" Theresa.

Give Kate her balls back.

It's also interesting that he says the script writers don't collaborate much with each other. I think that's a mistake, and probably a big reason as to why some consecutive episodes just don't flow well.

I like that he said that -- growing up, he used to religiously read every page of the soap magazine, and that he knows the histories of the characters.

We've had our share of crazies lately, with Ben, Ava, and apparently now, Summer.

Of all the unbalanced folks who've populated Salem, though, I do prefer Kristen. Ben was interesting when he went dark. Ava was...I don't know...lethargic? Summer doesn't really grab me. I keep thinking if they wanna bring in a daughter for Maggie, she's got two.

Kristen at least has energy and even humor. I don't LIKE her, really, but she's very watchable.

The Stefano episode this week was pretty good.

I think they read each others' scripts. And there's also a script editor.
