When Josh Griffith did his interview in Voldy back in August, he mentioned how he always wanted to write for Days and was a fan and we know he was at Santa Barbara as a writer too. He clearly was big into the late 80's/early 90's stuff and you look at the show in the Fall and there were shades of it but, today, it was like the show returned to those years. The whole vibe was like something out of 1988-1992. This is clearly the kind of show Griffith wants to write and his vision of Days was truly on display today and Milstein has always been of this same vision too. I remember during her brief 2006 stint the show had a vibe at times like today.

It was just an awesome show. You had 3 stories going on that, at their center, involved 3 major/super couples. You had the new young couple in Chad/Abby and their story, Steve and Kayla, and John and Marlena. Classic late 80's/early 90's Days especially with tying things together like Petrov, Deimos, the formula, Winterthorne, etc. Classic Days.

I really liked the Jennifer/Abby scenes. You can tell beneath the surface that Abby is losing it and Jennifer is too. So many layers in those scenes and I loved the way they are building this Ben stuff. You just never know where or when he will pop up and that is frightening.

The Steve/Kayla stuff was great. The scene with Steve finding the shrine was chilling. The music cue there was just perfect. I was wondering when the snake stuff would come in and it was cool how it was integrated. Really effective scenes.

The kidnapping stuff built well. The tension, the emotion...it was all there. Loved the stuff with Petrov and that last scene with John/Deimos was fantastic. Drake seems to be really invested, which is good. I just love how many people this involved. CB was great today and so was GG and AM. This is the most I have liked Rafe since November. That scene with Eduardo was awesome. So much great buildup with this.

Also, I feel like today was probably one of the best paced shows since Griffith came in last August. Everything flowed well.
Well, once Dena takes over in six months it will be right back in the toilet again. I guess we need to enjoy it while it lasts for now.

Why didn't Abby tell Jen about Ben? Why didn't Jen already know about Ben? Clicking on Google, Yahoo, etc., etc., it would be all over the place! Radio, TV, water cooler. Why is this a secret? LOL

Ed explaining why he left his Hernandez family, and his Larson family, was a bit lame. Rafe made a good point. WHY did he come back to endanger his family again?

Gabi doesn't seem all that upset to me. Camilla did much better with killing Nick.

Even if someone you loved made a shrine like that, it would totally creep you out! :blulaugh: Ava REALLY liked snakes, and she REALLY didn't like Kayla! :blulaugh:

John said there will be a blood bath if anything happens to Marlena or that little girl.... Ed loaded his gun, ready for a blood bath! Let the battle begin!

Good episode.

Really liked Gabi's panic today. Calling the hospital. Wanting to call John and Belle. She was using her head

Eduardo was a lot calmer than John today. At least John seemed to be in a hurry to get the info out of Deimos. Loved those scenes.

I'm not sure what I think is going to happen with S&K. But I'd love them to start talking to other people soon. Kayla needs a friend.

Surprising Abby didn't tell Jennifer about Ben. And I get Jennifer's concern about the house.

I'll say this. Abby was the least happy bride as she was planning with Ben (for good reason) and now while she loves Chad so much, she's a mess again. Why couldn't this wait until after the wedding?

Great show. I've been enjoying March, for the most part. The characters seem more layered and nuanced, back to the way they were this fall, and the stories are getting more interesting and compelling. For the first time since early December, I've been looking forward to each new episode.

I forgot to add Eduardo seemed to really be struggling with having to kill people again. John was like let me at them. I'm curious how Thursday and Friday go

Count me in the John/Eduardo bromance camp. When the dust settles after John's dad, I hope both men turn their eyes towards Deimos.

Eduardo does look like he's struggling with the fact that he'll have to kill while as Lovejm pointed out John looks like he's ready to bodily tear someone apart.

That shrine was flat out creepy. Ava was coocoo for Coco Puffs. Showing that place to the police is a good start to proving how dangerous Ava was.

Joey seems like he's really struggling to hold it together. Wonder if beating the hell out of Chase will help settle him down by purging some of that energy or if it's going to make things worse.

Loved Gabi. Enjoyed JJ and didn't hate Rafe, though I thought Eduardo should have told his son John was his backup.

I find the bubble around the Steve and Kayla scenes to be so bizarre. It's been popped a little... but why is Kayla talking about her sex life with people like Roman and Joey? Are there no women in town who have five minutes for her? The way she asked Joey whether he forgave Steve for sleeping with Ava was so over the line of what is appropriate with parents and kids.

Stephen is still playing it like there was some violation there, but the dialogue doesn't really support this today. I think we're moving toward wrapping up this stuff, which is good and bad. I liked the sappy stuff Steve said to Kayla, but the resolution for that part of the story clearly needs to be in bed, and if there are reasons they aren't going to go there, they should have told a different one to begin with.

And S&K should both be more preoccupied with the fact that their son is a killer, at this point, than what they talked about today.

Loved the Chad and Abby scenes today, with Abby not caring about what happens to her wedding as long as her family is safe. Jennifer and Abby were okay, but I wonder if it's supposed to be the drugs that is making Jennifer this way? This feels again like too few people in a storyline to create the kind of conflict that they want over Abby in DiMera world. Especially with Andre offscreen and Ben being the actual threat at the moment.

LOL @ Petrov's hair... I thought that was Bill Eckert at first. And how polite of Deimos to text his sex thank you's.
If Joey didn't know about the thing with Ava, I could see Kayla avoiding the subject, but talking to your kid about how he feels about his father's actions isn't out of line... if his actions are out there. Joey's been openly upset about what he saw with regards to Ava and Steve on the couch so Kay checking in with him on that doesn't feel out of place to me.

It does feel out of place that she isn't more checking in with him about how he feels about the whole, you took a human life thing... and I think that can be worked around by them saying, look Dad's trial is coming up and we have to focus on that but Joey's seeing Marlena the second she's kidnapped... or but I've reread everything from my psych rotation... or whatever.

I felt like Jen's actions were informed by the drugs. She was super manic.

Deimos and the text was kind of adorable, honestly. But you know he's a criminal.

The thing is I don't mind that Kate has an active and healthy sex life What I don't like is she often seems like peoples first stop in town before their real stories get started. Either you have a story to tell with Kate or you don't and if you don't.. as entertaining as I find Lauren Koslow, and I do, free up the salary.

KM is doing a good job of playing freaked out and I like how she is playing it in every scene (like looking out the door when Jennifer came in).

I like Jennifer being honest and her & Abby having this discussion, but now is not the right time and Abby asked her to drop it like 3 times. Still I enjoyed that scene.

I have to say it's beyond annoying that Abby and Chad disappear for half the show. Their wedding is Friday and they are not spoiled to be on the next two days (If they are, I'll be pleasantly surprised). With everything happening Friday, I feel like it's going to be too short. It just sucks. :( I wanted some build-up before the wedding, like a bridal shower or something.
I think the build up for the wedding is much better than it is for the kidnapping. John also disappeared for half the show. I was envious of all the build up for the wedding yesterday and today. That said, the pacing on this show is horrible. IMO, the only story they really seem to want to hit every beat for is the Summer story.
John might have disappeared for half the show, but the story didn't. :) This is the week the wedding begins and the story should be in every segment if it isn't going to be featured in every episode this week, which it seems like it's not going to be. It just frankly pisses me off, especially looking back at HopeFest. I know that was all for the anniversary, but they gave all this hoopla for someone getting married for like the 4th time and for a marriage they knew would last a matter of hours. This is Chad & Abby's first wedding and they are a root-for couple. Where are are the Bachelor and Bachelorette parties? That's just one example. I don't know how Chad teleported to the police station and then it took most of the show for him to get home. I wanted more alone time for Chad and Abby today.
Sorry, you're talking to a John and Marlena fan, so it's hard to be very sympathetic, LOL And I'd have to go back to 1986 to remember the only good wedding they had.

Chad and Abby's wedding seemed to come out of nowhere. I wish they had delayed it so it didn't have to be happening the same week as the kidnapping. If they had to do it that way then they could have delayed Kate and Deimos hooking up and the endless nightmare of Brady and all his women, including Maggie.

ITA... At one point, I think in the park after finding that toy on the ground, she just sort of stood there with no emotion. And it wasn't like she was playing Gabi as being stunned or confused or scared or anything. It was just duhhhhh.

I didn't mind that Kayla was checking with Joey about that, but the tone of it felt less like "how is my son handling all of this" and more like she needed to hear his opinion, so she could figure out her own. And then it felt like he was pressuring her to forgive Steve, which is really none of his business. Lots of boundary weirdness for the Johnsons since Ava came to town.

This Steve scene is why they need to think before releasing spoiler pictures and certain spoilers. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought he was about to stumble across Marlena/Ari.
They need to rethink their captions for episodes on the nbc site too. Yesterdays episode said, "Marlena and Arianna get kidnapped!" and all I could think was, "well good thing I knew already."

Steve regarding the shrine: This needs to be preserved. I mean, since she went to all this trouble.

It saddens me that sex with Ava is being treated as something other than rape. The fact that Kayla is a doctor and a survivor makes it even more glaring that it's not being addressed. I wish Kayla could see the portion of that video where Steve was physically repulsed by Ava and showing signs of deep shame.

The scenes were very well acted, I just wish along with Steve's reassurances and comforting words the writing would also revisit Steve's repulsion and shame.

I hate that this rape is being swept under the rug because a man is the victim.

I also hate that Kayla is so down on herself.

Loved the Abigail/Jennifer argument and the Rafe/Eduardo scenes!

Another must-see episode - John's backstory is something I've looked forward to seeing for months, plus the shrine-to-Steve sounds creepy as F, I wonder how MBE & SN got thru it with straight faces? I'm intrigued by Eduardo as well - A Martinez seems like a class act.

Bring it on, Days!!
I am also looking forward to Drake/A's storyline. I like their chemistry together. I have always loved A Martinez's acting ability back from Santa Barbara days. He is one fine actor. Here's hoping this gives him a good story, because so far he has been wasted.
A friend told me about a spoiler saying that JJ gives Gabi some kind of upsetting update. We know Ed gets shot but does he die? It seemed like Days was constructing the story to keep A around longer than that. Hope I'm wrong.
