Did they clarify today that Petrov betrayed Jigsaw and sold John to Stefano? I think that's what the tweets said. If so, I like that. It fits. |

I get the feeling that his endgame for his Phantom Agency is the destruction of the United States. Not sure he's concerned with what replaces it but he wants revenge for the hell he suffered in Korea/China before he decided to stay dead and learn how to form a group to fight back. With that as a goal, then trying to stay alive a few more years to complete the work he's been doing for decades makes sense. He sees that as the greater good so Bo's death, Marlena and Ari (if it had happened), even John's death are acceptable losses to him. In his warped mind he think's John abandoned his mission and turned away from his higher calling. Either he doesn't remember that John has no memories or he just doesn't care and blames John anyway rather than Petrov or Stefano. |

You're right. Some bigger plot does make sense of why he has to live longer. And I wonder if he dies and the threat still exists and they have to find a way to figure out what it is and stop it. It could extend the story past the kidnapping. |

I thought it was a pretty good episode. John and his fathers backstory is pretty over the top but it's still good and interesting. The episode flowed pretty well. |

Will admit that Kayla's rant against my Justin was good lol. In some ways it was justified. But still... The whole situation needs to end ASAP!

I hadn't thought that far ahead but you're right too. If they go that route then Deimos could take over or some other unseen bad guy as John, Steve, and Eduardo work together to combat the continuing threat to John and Eduardo's families. Which could be one aspect of the story as all three men try to reconnect with their families in light of the tragedies they've caused everyone they love because of their past. It has a nice balance and symmetry to it. |

Yes they did and I assume Petrov sold him to Stefano which in my mind means John was physically sold four times in his life like a slave centuries ago would have been. Am I counting right? His mom sold him to that family so she could have a more comfortable life. The orphanage, legally, sold him to the Alamain's. The Alamain's sold him to Yo Ling. Petrov stole John and sold him to Stefano. Then when Stefano was assumed dead Petrov was going to sell John again to the highest bidder the KGB, Victor Kiriakis or whomever else was bidding on him. That's pretty fucked up. |

Please note: This report is not to be copied and pasted to any other sites. Please link only. Link to summary archive: http://www.network54.com/Forum/358635/ Director: Steven Williford Scriptwriter: Richard Culliton Segment 1 Steve, Kayla and Joey are at the Brady Pub having a meal. Joe - I mean all this stuff you found at Ava's, that's enough to prove what a whack job she was, right? That she was after us; that she wanted to kill Mom. I mean what else do we need! She had a shrine to you. She had a picture of Mom that said 'gone forever' on it. Kayla - Please don't remind us. Joe - But it's enough for Dad to plead self-defence. He's not going to do time for protecting his family, don't you think? Steve - Yes, absolutely. Joe - Let me tell the truth. I'm the one who killed her. Let me stand trial, a kid protecting his mom. Steve shushes him. Stop it right now. You've got to let me and your Mom handle it, do you understand me? Kayla - Joey why don't you clear the table. Your grandma needs some help in the kitchen. Joe - I'm the reason we're in this mess. He grabs some plates and heads to the kitchen. Kayla - He's so like you. Steve - I know. It scares the hell out of me. Kayla - He loves me and he'll do anything to protect me and you love him and you'll do anything to protect him. Steve - And I'll do anything to protect you Kayla. That's why I couldn't tell you what had happened. I love you both. You're my whole world and I'm going to get you through this, I promise. Shawn and Lani are looking at the chest of one of shooters. Shawn - I found the same symbol on the other two. Lani - I wonder what it means. Shawn - I don't know. Let's pray to God it helps us find out whoever took John. Rafe is standing behind his father's gurney near the nurses station. A doctor says to take him to Trauma Room 3. Gabi rushes up with Ari. Rafe, what's going on? Is he going to be okay? Rafe - I don't know. Hey sweetheart, is she okay. Gabi - Yes she's all right thanks to you and JJ. Wait, he was shot. Rafe - Yeah, he took a bullet that was meant for me. JJ - Your Dad saved Rafe's life. Gabi - OMG. I'm just so glad you're okay. I was so scared. Marlena rushes up. I'm so sorry, I heard there was a gunshot victim. JJ - Eduardo Hernandez. He's on his way to the trauma room right now. Marlena - Well then where's John? John - My father, Timothy Robichaud died on the battlefield in the Korean war and I'm wearing his tags. Yo Ling - There are more things in heaven and earth John that are dreamt of in your philosophy. I can call you John, can't I? John - You've got me chained to a pole, you can call me whatever you want. Yo Ling - Western ? is the narrowest, so literal. There's no room for explanation, there's no room to breathe. It's stifling like a summer afternoon in Korea. The heat just keeps coming and coming and coming. It goes through your mind like an army of ants. There's no end in sight. But I transcended all that John. John - So you're trying to say what? Yo Ling - I'm trying to say when Timothy Robichaud died on that battlefield a new being was born. The man known as Robichaud was left for dead but he summoned the strength most men can't even imagine and he escaped into the mountains of China. He recovered. He trained with masters in the martial arts. He rebuilt his strength and he took the name Yo Ling. John - Chinese for phantom. Yo Ling - You know where phantoms live, I live everywhere and nowhere in the dark matter where no light exists. You can't see them but they're there. They influence everything you do, everything around you. John - I hate to disappoint you but I see you just fine. Yo Ling - I think not. Despite the training we gave you you turned your back on us. You abandoned your commitment. You see I know everything. John - You abandoned your family, not to mention your country. Yo Ling - My country left me for dead and now my mission is to right the wrongs of the sewer you call western civilization. John - Robin Hood, huh? Yo Ling - Robin Hood! What did he know about justice. What he did was a bandaid. We brought real change. I've seen despots fall, I've seen governments topple. Our movement is synonymous with revolution. At the beginning we were disorganized and irrational but I was able to transform that chaos into the most effective organization of spies, assassins and fighters in the world. I took a handful of passionate believers and created what the world came to know as the Phantom Alliance. John - So now I know who you are and what you are. How long have you been watching me? How long have you known that I'm your son. Yo Ling - A long time. Have some tea. It's a rare blend I imported from Nepal. John says something after he refuses but I couldn't understand him. He slides down to the floor. Rafe - We're trying to trace the call that told him to go to the warehouse. Right now we have a team at the warehouse going over it with a fine tooth comb. Marlena - Well then it was never about Arianna and me. It was always about John and that agency. They wanted him back so they tried to go through his family because they want him to kill for them again. Rafe - What else do you know about the agency? Marlena - I know there's a place called the Winterthorne Academy and that's a recruiting center. You know John isn't given to exaggeration. Rafe - I know. Marlena - John says the organization is evil and he meant that literally. Yo Ling pours water on John. Nice cold shower, the ultimate elixir, ?. I've used it my whole life. John - Looks like it took a lot out of you. Maybe you better call up some of that inner strength other men can only imagine. Yo Ling - You have a lot of anger towards me. John - You destroyed my life. Yo Ling - On the contrary I offered you purpose. John - I know you turned me into a killing machine. Yo Ling - Not machine. Never machine. Killing is sometimes necessary. You do what you have to do but only for a higher purpose so it's not machine. It's never machine. John - So tell me Father how many people have I killed. Do you even know? Yo Ling - Does it matter now? When you arrived at Winterthorne everyone could see your promise; everyone could see your talent. Your destiny was to follow in my footsteps. John - So you are the one who brought me there. Yo Ling - It took me a while to find you after your mother abandoned you. We traced you to the orphanage you were placed in but by the time I arrived you had already been adopted by the Alamains. John - Just another piece of good luck. Yo Ling - I watched and I waited. After all you were my only son. When the time was right we followed you to the Alamains and made them a financial offer they couldn't refuse and promised to place you in the prestigious Winterthorne Academy. John - And they were more than happy to have you take me off their hands. Yo Ling - When you arrived at Winterthorne John I almost came to you but I felt you needed to stand on your own. You were chosen for special training, groomed to be one of the alliance's elite and that proved to be a very wise decision on our part. John - So your minions brought me to Winterthorne and you just silently sat in the background and watched as they brainwashed me. Yo Ling - Educated you. John - Indoctrinated me. Yo Ling - Educated you. John - Indoctrinated me. Yo Ling - You were on the verge of commanding your own brigade, 250 men when Petrov betrayed me, delivered you to ... John - Stefano DiMera. Yo Ling - Yeah. John laughs. Now after all this time you've got me back. Yo Ling - I do. John - Why is that? Yo Ling - That's the key question, isn't it? Segment 2 Gabi and Ari are back with Rafe and JJ in the hospital lounge. I can't believe our father was an assassin. Rafe - Well he was in the same organization as John so. He said he tried to cut ties with them several times but they wouldn't take no for an answer. Gabi - So they just took my baby? Rafe - Marlena thinks John was the ultimate target. Since they took him she's probably right. Gabi - I can't believe my father is an assassin. Rafe - No, the fact of the matter is we don't know anything about his past. Gabi - And if he doesn't make it through the surgery than we never will. Joe comes out of the kitchen and watches his parents. Kayla - You should get going, you have that meeting with Belle, right? Steve - Right. Try not to worry okay. Kayla - Let me know what happens. Steve - I will. He leaves. Joe - You two seem to be getting along. Kayla - We've got to stick together. Joe - If you don't forgive Dad it's like Ava won. Kayla - I have to get back to work. Joe - Do you think all the stuff you guys found, the shrine, the photos, does that mean Dad's going to get off. Kayla - It's look a lot better than it used to. Your Dad told me not to worry. I think we both need to work on that. She hugs him. I'll see you later okay. Segment 3 Steve and Belle are sitting at a table in the square. Belle is looking at the pictures of the shrine. Steve - That proves she was a threat to us, right? Belle - Well it proves that Ava Vitali was certifiable. Steve points to one picture. I don't know if you can tell by the picture but the writing on that is in blood. Belle - Wow, she not only lived in crazy town, she was the mayor of crazy town. Steve - So that proves self-defence right. I killed her to keep her from doing the same to Kayla. Belle - Well I don't think it's all cut and dried. It doesn't prove imminent threat but it gives me something to play with. Steve - Play with? Belle - At the very least it proves mitigating circumstances and it not only documents that she was blackmailing you but terrorizing you. It could explain why you didn't go to the cops when it all started. Steve - I thought you'd be more excited about this. Belle - It's not about how I feel. I have to take this to Justin and see what he thinks. Steve - What? Belle - I'm just putting myself in Justin's shoes. I mean if I was the DA I wouldn't want to go to trial knowing all that was waiting for me. Wish me luck. She leaves. Steve mutters - I was hoping you wouldn't need it. John pulls himself up. Yo Ling - During my time in China I learned the ways of the old masters. I learned Eastern medicine. I used that to treat my men in the field. But unfortunately I myself contracted an insidious disease. Bacteria are the oldest members of the food chain John, capable of eating us from the inside out. It'll probably inherit the earth one day. Fortunately for me I'll be long gone by then. He coughs. But I have no intention of leaving this planet early. There's one thing standing in the way of my longevity. Topit's Disease. John - What Caroline Brady had. Yo Ling - I followed her case, her recovery. Unfortunately my condition is more advanced than hers. John - So you're on a new mission. Yo Ling - I've been seeking a cure for a long time. Several years ago I heard about a serum that Bo Brady had discovered. John - So you're the one who kidnapped and tortured him and you stole it for yourself. Yo Ling - No I hired someone to get it for me. Unfortunately I did not exercise sufficient oversight over there. I regret that. John scoffs - You regret that! Bo Brady is dead because of you. And you arranged to have Marlena and her grandchild end up the exact same way. Yo Ling - Yes that would have been unfortunate collateral damage. John - Collateral damage! What a great way to look at human life. Yo Ling - You are forgetting what the basic tenets of our alliance which is the loss of a single life or even multiple lives is sometimes the price to be paid for the greater good. Segment 4 Justin and Belle are in the interrogation room at the Salem PD. Belle - Here it is. Clear proof that she was mentally unstable and a genuine and imminent threat to Steve's family. He had no choice but to stop her. I think you have to drop the charges against him. Justin - Belle, this evidence, your argument ... it's ... I guess the word I'm looking for is laughable. Belle - I don't think the jury's going to be laughing when they see those pictures. Justin - No jury is going to acquit Steve once I explain exactly what self-defence means. It doesn't mean smothering a woman half your size in a hospital bed. It doesn't mean getting away with murder. Belle - So you're really going to argue that the woman who did this was not a threat ... Justin - That threat could have been handled with a restraining order or reporting the fact that she kidnapped Kayla. Steve deliberately chose to do neither. In fact I could argue persuasively I think, that by not having her arrested he was actually laying the groundwork for her murder. Than you start throwing words around like premeditation. Belle - No, everything Ava Vitali did was premeditated. Steve was just in reaction mode. Justin - I understand that but Steve went outside the law and it's not his first visit there. These are lurid, disturbing pictures but they don't change the facts of the case. Steve Johnson will have to stand trial for murder. He leaves. Rafe joins Shawn near the nurse's station. Shawn ends his call. Toxicology report came in. The liquid John and Eduardo drank was laced with a narcotic that's popular with Asian street gangs. The dead guy's chest, the symbol that was on it is a Chinese symbol for phantom. Rafe - So this agency has it's roots in Asia. I'm going to call Shane Donovan, see if he's got any information. John - You call what you've done the greater good. I don't think I'd go claiming the moral high ground here. Yo Ling - You ever heard of the 38th parallel, of what happened there in 1950. Did they teach you about that in your schools? Of course not. Not the real story. The United States of Amnesia. Never tell the unvarnished truth. The coup of MacArthur and Marshall ... they overrode Truman. They took their armies and they crossed into the Democratic Republic of Korea, cutting down innocent people. Women, children whose only crime was being born too far north. The United States of Aggression. John - Well look who's talking about aggression. Help me with something. I want to understand what happened to that man I read about in those newspaper articles. By all accounts Timothy Robichaud was a kind and decent man. He never made a lot of money but was known for his charity. Yo Ling - Tim Robichaud was a nobody without the power or resources to truly affect his world but Yo Ling became a man ... John - Who talks about himself in the third person. Yo Ling - Who makes a difference. John - So did Stalin. Yo Ling - So did ?. So did Malcolm, Mandela, ?, Emilio Zapata, Crazy Horse. All those men thought outside the box and they left this world before their time. I don't want that to be my fate and that's where you come in. Segment 5 Belle is back with Steve in the square. Steve - So you showed all those pictures to Justin and he still wants to take it to trial. Belle - Listen I'm not giving up on this and neither should you. I'm going to fight this. Steve - Yeah, well it will be what it will be. If I can't beat it I'll do the time. I've made my peace with that. Joey comes through the gates into the park. Jade tells him to slow down. You look awful. What's wrong? Joe - Nothing. Jade - Liar. Come on, you can talk to me. Joe - I can't. Jade - Look you can trust me. Get whatever it is off your chest. I swear I won't tell anyone. Is it about your Dad killing that Vitali woman. Joe - He didn't kill her, I did. Gabi - OMG, your family! Abigail's wedding! Your sister's wedding! JJ - I will leave as soon as we find out your Dad made it through surgery. Gabi - I feel so bad about this. I'm sorry. JJ - Don't. Do you have any idea how much I care about you! Gabi - Thank God you made it out of that warehouse in one piece. I don't think I knew until now how much I really need you. They hug. Fynn walks up to Rafe who is near the nurse's station. I have good news. Your father's out of surgery. It was a clean shot. Even though he's lost a lot of blood the damage wasn't too extensive. Rafe - Well I need to see him. Fynn - Give him time to rest. Rafe - That's the thing, I don't have time. After my father was shot they took another man, I don't know where. I need to talk to my father. He's our only hope of finding the guy. Fynn - Okay, just don't get him excited. Rafe asks Lani - Tell my sister he's going to be all right. Kayla watches from behind the nurse's station. Rafe goes into Eduardo's room. Ed - Hey, Arianna is all right? Rafe - Yeah she's fine. So is Gabi. Ed - Thank God. Rafe - And thank you. We both know that bullet you took was meant for me. Ed - I was having second thoughts about it but it was too late to pull up. Rafe - You need to rest but I need to talk to you. Marlena comes in. Eduardo, do you know where John is? Ed - John's missing? Rafe - Do you think the Alliance took him? Ed - They'll try and turn him ... he tries to sit up. Rafe - Hey, you're not going anywhere. You want to help John talk to me. Tell me everything you know about this damn Alliance. Segment 6 Joe - I thought she was my friend. I thought that I loved her but everything she did was to tear apart my family and I knew that as long as she lived she wouldn't stop. Jade - The night of the party when you were telling me about an older woman who broke your heart, that was her. Joe - I left the party to go to the hospital, to make sure she never woke up. My Dad showed up and he saw. He told me to leave and he stayed and took the blame. It's okay if you hate me, I do. I mean what I did was horrible but letting my Dad take the blame, that's even worse. Jade - Joe you were pretty drunk that night and I get how people can get pushed to the edge. Joe - I went over the edge. Jade - You know what your Dad is doing is pretty great. If it were my Dad he'd let me rot in prison. Joe - I know he loves me but this is ... Jade - Maybe he's doing what he thinks is right. Joe - Shouldn't I do what I think is right. If my Dad gets convicted I won't be able to live with myself. Steve is at the nurse's station. Kayla - Justin should schedule surgery and I would be happy to remove that big stick that is so far up ... I'm sorry. It's just easier to be mad at him than think about what could happen to you. I didn't think this day could get any worse. Steve - Why? Kayla - John is missing and Marlena thinks the Alliance has him. Steve - OMG! Rafe shows Ed a picture on his cell. They each had one of these carved into their chest. It translates as phantom. Ed - Phantom Alliance. That's the group that John and I worked for, killed for. Rafe - Can you give me some names? Rafe - None of them would help. Most of those men had 6 or 7 fully documented identities. Rafe - What about the people that you answered to. Ed - It's very rarely the same person twice. One level of encryption over another. I'm pretty sure I never met anyone from the highest ranks. Rafe - Where are they based? Ed - Nowhere and everywhere. Marlena - Do you know where they took John? Ed - I'm so sorry. John - So what do you want from me? Yo Ling - Something very personal. In addition to the advanced stage of Topit's I've developed an acute blood disease. If I could heal that quickly I can buy the time I need to cure the Topit's. John - So what does chaining me to a post have to do with any of that? Yo Ling - I need fresh, healthy, compatible blood. Who's a better source for that than my own son. Segment 7 Joe - I can't let my Dad do this. His lawyer just told him the case is going to trial. I'm a minor, they'll go easier on me. Jade - Joey I think your father knows what he's doing. Joe - Don't you see, I don't have a choice. I have to turn myself in. Fynn turns when there's a knock on Eduardo's door. Gabi - Can we come in for a second. Fynn - I think you fall under the heading of good medicine. Just keep him calm. Don't stay too long. Gabi - Hi, how are you. We just wanted to come in and say thank you. Ed - She's okay? Gabi - Yeah she seems to be doing fine. JJ told me that you saved Rafe's life and I wanted to say thank you for that. Ed - You shouldn't thank me. I put all of you in danger because of my insane life. There's so much I need to tell you. So much I need to explain to you. Gabi - I know but your doctor says you should just keep it short. Yes you have some explaining but we'll have time now, thank God. Ed - You have your mother's eyes. She had beautiful eyes. Ari has them too. Beautiful eyes. Gabi sits Ari on the bed next to Ed. Ed lets Ari play with his ring. Rafe is leaning against his Dad's hospital room door talking on his cell. I'm going to need a guard outside my father's room. I'll just wait here until one shows up. He goes over to the nurse's station. Marlena, I didn't get much out of my father so I'm going to need to ask you anything and everything John ever told you about this Winterthorne Academy. Steve - Did you ask your father about that? Rafe - I didn't ask him yet. He's a little groggy. He needs a little more strength before I grill him. Steve - Well I want to be in on that. If he gives us anything I'm going to track it down and find these ... Kayla - Steve you are facing murder charges. You're out on bail. Steve - I can't just stand around and wait. Kayla - They'll put you in jail until the trial. Steve - Well I'm going to have to risk it. John is my partner. I'm not stopping until we find him. John - Your people trained me to be a killer and now you want my blood. Yo Ling - It's a bit more complicated than that. In order for me to continue ... John snaps - Continue what! There is no greater good damn it. You are just a sick old man who got rich training and selling hard-muscled assassins. Yo Ling - Not a penny has gone in my pocket. I own nothing. Now there's a chance that what I'm asking you for will cost you your life. John - And that's supposed to come as a surprise. Yo Ling - But you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you died for the future of this planet and for a sacred cause. |

Okay. The first second of this episode is pretty much everything that's wrong with this regime. We're picking up on a story from last week that got dropped at an awkward time on Wednesday. Two other stories had cliffhangers on Friday. One will pick up, but not both. No. That's not how this works. IDK whose issue this is, but whether it's the head writer's or the breakdown writer's, it needs to be fixed. Their killing their own momentum. |

I have to give the show props. They have done a fantastic job with this backstory for John. They connected the dots better than alot of the past rewrites and kept the major aspects of his past worth keeping intact. It all played out very well. Tobin Bell was great and the character is just fascinating. And Drake is doing his best work in years. Those scenes felt far more primetime-like than soap-like. Same goes for the shootout and the stuff on Friday. This whole thing has been well done and I like how they have had others weave in and out. You have the Hernandez's, JJ, Lani, and today Shawn entered the fray. I also think GG has really stepped up in his scenes with AM. Keep Rafe away from Hope and he flourishes. I didn't like when I heard they weren't picking up on the wedding until tomorrow but, seeing how today played, I think it was the right thing to do. One of the issues so many of us, including myself, have had with this regime (particularly when Griffith is writing) is the show trying to do too much in a given episode. There was no way they could give the John story and the wedding the proper focus they both deserved today without cutting a bunch of material. They made the right call and tomorrow they can focus exclusively on the wedding and play it off as a "meanwhile" type deal. I do have an issue with Steve and Kayla. I did enjoy their scenes (as well as the Joey/Jade scenes) and I like how they got tied in with the John drama. Again, I love how different characters are weaving in and out of that story. However, there wasn't a single mention of Abby's wedding. I don't mind them not going. Steve had a meeting with Belle. There was his excuse. Joey could have just been too traumatized and Kayla wants to be there for one or both of them. That's fine. But bring that up. Acknowledge it. That was very glaring IMO and I blame the scriptwriters. I am also shocked the actors and producers didn't pick up on that either. There have been so many cool details they have thought of since the Fall, particularly during Griffith's writing, but some key family stuff like this tends to fall by the wayside and there is no excuse especially with the actors being very knowledgeable about this stuff. I would think someone would bring it up. |

They need to at least leave the story in a place where they can leave it for a few days and then pick it up. I mean, I don't think leaving the Steve/Kayla stuff in the position they did was THAT bad. They found the shrine and reacted to it. The bigger issue IMO is why aren't they at a family wedding? Why couldn't we use that wedding as a way to pick up with what is happening with them? Then, you have Joey run out because he recalls killing Ava and feels awful and can't be around people. Steve and Kayla leave as well and give their apologies for missing the wedding. That gets those 3 out of there before the wedding and then you can still play the same stuff today that you did and set everything else up. Or at least bring up why they aren't at the wedding. Steve had a big meeting with Belle. Kayla wanted to be there for that. Joey was a mess. Whatever. Just mention it. Not very hard. The writers get the most blame but I feel the actors, especially in the current collaborative environment, should point this out too. The only reason IMO that I can tolerate the wedding stuff being delayed is because they needed the time to focus on the John story. I can deal with that. However, one could argue (and many will and they would be right) that they should've better planned all this out to avoid these issues. |
